The e-receipt Hertz sends within 24 to 48 hours of a return follows a fixed structure, and it's what expense reviewers and the Hertz app both key off of. These are the fields the original contains.
Rental record number
The receipt is keyed to the rental record number - an alphanumeric code starting with a letter, like H12345678 - printed on the paperwork signed at pickup and referenced in the booking confirmation email. Hertz's online Get a Receipt tool accepts either the record number or last name plus driver's license number.
Pickup and return with exact timestamps
The receipt shows the checkout and check-in locations with exact date and time for each, since Hertz bills in full rental days measured from the pickup time.
Vehicle class, not a guaranteed model
Hertz reserves and bills by vehicle class (Economy, Midsize, Full-Size, SUV, luxury tiers like Prestige or Adrenaline Collection), so the receipt lists the class charged along with license plate and mileage.
Time & Mileage base charge
The base rate appears as a Time & Mileage line - the daily or weekly rate times rental days - with any per-mile overage if the plan was not unlimited.
Airport concession and vehicle license fees
Airport pickups add a concession recovery fee and a per-day vehicle license fee as pass-through lines, which is why an airport rental total exceeds the quoted base rate.
Hertz Gold Plus Rewards number and app access
If a Gold Plus Rewards number is attached, it appears on the receipt near the renter's name. Members can also open the Hertz app, sign in, go to My Rentals or Rental History, and tap View Receipt to see the full breakdown without waiting for the email.
