What Is on a Real H&M Receipt?
H&M receipts follow a consistent structure across stores, and a credible replacement copy should match it field for field - store number, item lines, Member points, and tax.
Store number and register/transaction ID
Every H&M store receipt prints a store number, register number, and a transaction or receipt number near the top, along with the cashier name and the store's street address.
Article number on every item line
Each clothing item shows its article number along with the item description, size, colour, quantity, and unit price - the article number is what H&M staff use to look up the item for a return.
H&M Member points, not just a discount
Since the 2023 loyalty relaunch, H&M Member is a points-based program: 1 point per currency unit spent, tracked to the phone number or email used at checkout rather than a physical card. A receipt for a Member purchase typically shows points earned on that transaction, not a percentage-off Member discount.
Tax line varies by country
US and Canadian H&M receipts show sales tax or GST/PST as a separate line calculated on the store's location; UK and EU receipts show VAT already included in the shelf price, with the VAT breakdown printed near the total.
Payment method and change due
The bottom of the receipt lists the payment method (card type and last 4 digits, cash tendered and change, or gift card balance used) followed by the final total.
Return policy line printed on the receipt
Many H&M receipts print a short return-window reminder near the bottom - full refunds require the receipt within 30 days; after that, or without a receipt, only an exchange or store credit is possible, and no-receipt returns are limited to three per 180 days with ID.

Get Your Original H&M Receipt First
If you paid by card or checked out through the app, H&M can often reprint the receipt in-store, or you can find the order confirmation email for online purchases. H&M Member purchases are also tracked to your phone number or email, so staff can sometimes look up a recent transaction by member ID even without the paper receipt. For in-store purchases, bring your card or ask staff to look up the transaction by date and payment method - many stores can reprint a receipt. H&M allows no-receipt returns with a valid photo ID, but only as store credit or exchange - not a full refund - and limited to three no-receipt returns per 180 days.
