What Is on a Real eBay Receipt?
eBay never mails you a paper receipt - the order details page in your account is the official purchase record. A credible eBay-style receipt should reproduce what that page and the order confirmation email actually contain.
Order number in 12-digit XX-XXXXX-XXXXX format
Every eBay order number is twelve digits split by two hyphens, like 04-11006-06728. It appears in the order confirmation email and on the order details page, and it is the reference eBay support and sellers use to locate the transaction.
Item title and item number
The order record shows the full listing title exactly as it appeared at purchase, alongside the numeric eBay item number. Because listings are seller-written, real eBay item lines often include condition notes, model numbers, and shipping keywords.
Seller username, not a store name
eBay is a marketplace, so the record names the seller's eBay username rather than a company. For a formal invoice or VAT receipt, buyers have to request it from the seller directly through eBay Messages.
Shipping as its own line
The order total breaks out item price and shipping separately, with the shipping service named. Free shipping shows as such rather than being omitted, and combined orders can show per-item shipping.
Sales tax collected by eBay
As a marketplace facilitator, eBay calculates, collects, and remits sales tax on US orders based on the delivery address, so tax appears as an eBay-added line even when the seller is a private individual.
Payment method and delivery address
The order details page records how you paid (card, PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay through eBay's managed payments) and the ship-to address - the fields expense reviewers use to tie the order to a statement charge.
