What Is on a Real EV Charging Receipt?

Charging networks like ChargePoint, Electrify America, and Tesla issue session summaries through their apps rather than paper slips, but the fields are consistent. A credible replacement record should include the same details.

Energy delivered in kWh

The core line on every charging receipt is the energy delivered, shown in kilowatt-hours - usually to two or three decimal places, like 42.318 kWh. This is the EV equivalent of gallons on a gas receipt.

Price per kWh or per minute

Networks bill either by energy or by time depending on the station and local rules - ChargePoint station owners set their own rates, and Electrify America prices per kWh in most states. The receipt shows which unit was used and the rate applied.

Session start, end, and duration

Real session summaries show when charging started and stopped and the total plug-in duration. Duration and kWh together imply the average charging power, so the numbers should be plausible for the charger type (Level 2 vs. DC fast).

Station ID and location

Each summary names the charging network, the specific station or charger ID, and the site address. Fleet and expense systems use the station ID to distinguish public charging from home charging.

Idle or overstay fees

Networks charge idle fees when a car stays plugged in after the session finishes - Electrify America, for example, charges an idle fee per minute after a 10-minute grace period. Any idle fee appears as its own line, separate from the energy cost.

Plan discounts, tax, and payment

Membership plans (like Electrify America Pass+ or ChargePoint roaming partners) show discounted rates or plan names on the summary, followed by any applicable tax and the payment method on the account.

Get Your Original EV Charging Receipt First

Charging networks keep session history in your account: ChargePoint lets you view sessions and request receipts from your account, Electrify America shows each completed session and its cost in the app, and Tesla owners can find Supercharger history and downloadable invoices in the Tesla app and account. Use this template when the original is unavailable - a session started as a guest without an account, a roaming session that never produced a summary, or a network whose history has aged out.

Yes. Creating and previewing is completely free - no login needed. Watermark-free PDF downloads are available on paid plans.

Check the network's app or website: ChargePoint keeps session history in your account and can provide receipts for past sessions, Electrify America shows each completed session's kWh and cost in the app, and Tesla Supercharger invoices are available in the Tesla app and online account. Sessions started as a guest without an account are the hardest to recover.

Yes. Public charging for business use is a reimbursable vehicle expense at most companies, and the session summary works like a fuel receipt - it documents the date, location, kWh, and cost. Home charging is harder to expense because it lands on a household electric bill, which is one reason drivers keep public session receipts separate.

Add the store name, purchase date, line items, totals, tax, payment method, and any optional notes you need on your Free EV Charging template.

Yes. Enter kWh delivered and charging rate ($/kWh) - the session cost calculates automatically.

Yes. Fleet managers and EV drivers use charging receipts to document energy costs for vehicle expense reimbursements and sustainability reporting.

Yes. Download a clean PDF for fleet expense reports, corporate EV reimbursement, carbon tracking, or personal EV charging records.

A real charging session summary shows the network and station ID, the site address, the session start and end times with total duration, the energy delivered in kWh, the rate (per kWh or per minute), any idle fee as a separate line, applicable tax, and the payment method or plan on the account.

Creating a receipt-style document for your own records is fine: recreating a lost receipt for personal bookkeeping, documenting a real session, or testing layouts. Using a generated receipt to claim a refund, return, reimbursement, or tax deduction for a session that did not happen is fraud and strictly prohibited. All template content is demo data and does not represent real transactions.
