What Is on a Real BP UK Receipt?
Before you rebuild a BP UK receipt, it helps to know what the original contains. UK forecourt receipts are shaped by VAT rules, and BP adds its own app and loyalty lines.
VAT number and 20% VAT within the total
Road fuel carries VAT at the standard 20% rate, and a proper VAT receipt shows the site's VAT registration number with the VAT rate and amount stated inside the total. This is the line that separates a reclaimable VAT receipt from a plain till slip.
Litres and pence per litre
The fuel line shows the pump number, the grade (Unleaded, BP Ultimate Unleaded with ACTIVE technology, Diesel, or BP Ultimate Diesel), litres to two or three decimals, and the unit price in pence per litre.
Fuel duty is included but never itemized
UK pump prices include fuel duty on top of VAT, but receipts do not break the duty out as a line - the per-litre price already contains it. Only VAT is itemized, because only VAT is reclaimable by businesses.
Pay-at-pump VAT receipt option
Paying at the pump prompts whether to print a receipt, and selecting the VAT receipt version adds the VAT breakdown. A card slip alone does not satisfy HMRC for reclaiming input VAT on fuel.
BPme emailed VAT receipts
Fuel paid through the BPme app shows a transaction summary on screen, but BP states the summary is not a receipt - the VAT receipt is emailed to the address registered to your bp account, with BPme Rewards points collected automatically.
