What Is on a Real Airtel Nigeria Receipt?
Airtel Nigeria does not print paper receipts for top-ups - the purchase record is the confirmation the channel produces. A credible replacement copy should match what those confirmations actually contain.
Transaction ID on every top-up
Every successful airtime or data purchase generates a unique transaction ID or reference that appears in the SMS confirmation and in the Airtel Thanks app's Transaction History. It is the field Airtel and banks use to trace failed or disputed VTU top-ups, so no real purchase record omits it.
The 11-digit subscriber number
The confirmation names the Airtel line that was credited. Airtel Nigeria numbers use prefixes like 0802, 0808, 0812, 0901, 0904, 0907, and 0912 - a receipt showing a number outside the Airtel prefix ranges will not match any Airtel record.
Bundle size and validity period
Data purchases list the plan (for example 2GB, 30 days) rather than just an amount, because the same Naira price can map to different bundles. Airtime top-ups show the recharge value in ₦ instead.
7.5% VAT in the price
Nigeria applies 7.5% VAT to telecom services, so airtime and data prices are VAT-inclusive. Business expense records in Nigeria commonly break this VAT component out for accounting.
Payment channel identifiers
The record reflects how you paid: Airtel Thanks app purchases show the in-app payment method, USSD recharges reference the *555# PIN recharge or bank USSD debit, and POS agent or VTU reseller purchases carry the agent platform's own reference alongside the Airtel confirmation.
Date, time, and Naira total
Every confirmation is timestamped and states the total in ₦. Failed transactions that were refunded still appear in Transaction History, which is why matching the exact date and time matters when reconciling expenses.
Get Your Original Airtel Nigeria Receipt First
If the top-up is recent, the original record is easy to retrieve: open the Airtel Thanks app and check Transaction History for the purchase and its transaction ID, or find the SMS confirmation Airtel sent when the top-up landed. Payments made through a bank app, USSD, or POS agent also leave a receipt on that channel. Use this template when the original is unavailable - a deleted SMS, a purchase made on someone else's line, or an agent top-up with no retrievable slip.

A real Airtel Nigeria purchase confirmation shows a unique transaction ID or reference, the 11-digit subscriber number that received the top-up (Airtel prefixes include 0802, 0808, 0812, 0901, 0904, 0907, and 0912), the airtime amount or data bundle with its validity period, the payment channel, the date and time, and the total in Naira. Amounts include Nigeria's 7.5% VAT on telecom services.
Creating a receipt-style document for your own records is fine: recreating a lost purchase confirmation for bookkeeping, documenting a real top-up, or testing layouts. Using a generated receipt to claim a refund, reimbursement, or expense for a purchase that did not happen is fraud and strictly prohibited. All template content is demo data and does not represent real transactions.
Yes. Airtel data and airtime receipts are commonly used by SMEs and resellers for accounting, VAT documentation, and expense tracking in Nigeria.

Open the Airtel Thanks (My Airtel) app and check Transaction History, which lists your airtime and data purchases with their transaction references. Every successful top-up also triggers an SMS confirmation you can screenshot, and if you paid through a bank app, USSD, or a POS agent, that channel issues its own receipt with the same transaction reference.
Yes. Airtime and data are legitimate, VAT-carrying business expenses in Nigeria, and SMEs, remote teams, and resellers routinely file top-up receipts for accounting and reimbursement. Keep the transaction ID on each record - it is what Airtel or your bank uses to trace a disputed or failed top-up.
Add the store name, purchase date, line items, totals, tax, payment method, and any optional notes you need on your Airtel Nigeria template.
