What Is on a Real MTN Receipt?
An MTN airtime or data purchase leaves the same core record whether it came from the MoMo wallet, a VTU vendor, a POS agent, or a bank USSD code. These are the fields a credible copy needs.
A transaction reference you can dispute with
Every purchase carries a unique reference string. When a top-up fails, MTN's process requires that reference plus the phone number, amount deducted, and date and time before a reversal can be investigated - it is the single most important field on the receipt.
The subscriber number credited
The receipt states which 11-digit MTN line received the value, so businesses topping up staff lines or resellers serving customers can tie each purchase to a specific number.
Airtime value or bundle line
Airtime purchases show the Naira amount credited; data purchases show the plan itself - bundle size, price, and validity window - rather than a bare figure.
VAT at the 7.5% Nigerian rate
Telecom services in Nigeria attract the standard 7.5% VAT, so receipts prepared for SME accounting, reseller records, or VAT documentation carry a VAT line in Naira.
How the purchase was paid
The record names the channel: MoMo wallet, bank USSD or transfer, debit card, POS agent, or VTU platform balance. MoMo PSB transaction receipts additionally display the sender's details.
Timestamp and confirmation trail
Alongside the receipt, MTN sends an SMS confirmation at the moment of top-up, and the MoMo app can produce a mini-statement - both act as backup proof when a printed or emailed copy goes missing.
