What Is on a Real Lidl Germany Receipt?
German Kassenbons are among the most regulated receipts in Europe, and Lidl's home-market receipts carry every required element. Here is what the original contains.
Bonpflicht - a receipt for every sale
Since January 2020, Germany's KassenSichV (cash register security ordinance) requires stores to issue a receipt for every transaction. Unlike in France, a Lidl Germany checkout always produces a Kassenbon - printed, or digital via Lidl Plus.
TSE signature block in the footer
German Kassenbons end with data from the certified technical security element (TSE): a serial number, signature counter, transaction number, and start and end times. This anti-tampering block is legally required and is the most distinctive feature of a modern German receipt.
MwSt letter codes on every item
Each item line carries a tax letter (typically A or B) marking whether it falls under the 19% standard or 7% reduced MwSt rate. A summary table near the total shows net, tax, and gross amounts per rate.
Pfand deposit lines
Single-use bottles and cans add a Pfand line of 0.25 EUR each; reusable bottles carry lower deposits. Returned empties appear as a negative Leergutbon deduction, so real German grocery receipts often show deposit charges and refunds on the same bon.
Lidl Plus digital Kassenbon
Scan the Lidl Plus app at checkout and a digital copy of the Kassenbon is stored in the app's purchase history, with app coupon discounts printed as negative lines. The digital bon carries the same fiscal data as the paper one.
Store, Kasse, and Bon metadata
The footer records the store (Filiale) address, the register (Kasse) number, the Bon number, date and time, and the payment method - the details staff use for returns and price corrections.
